Oscar S. Gonzalez was a proud United States Army Vietnam Veteran who served with honor in the 101st Airborne Division — the Screaming Eagles, one of the most storied and decorated units in American military history.
Like so many brave men and women of his generation, Oscar answered the call of duty and served his country with courage during one of the most challenging conflicts in modern history. His commitment to service, family, and community left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Oscar believed in the power of hard work and education. His family established this scholarship to carry forward that belief — ensuring that the young people of the Rio Grande Valley have access to the higher education opportunities they deserve.

The Scholarship
Established in 2025 by the Gonzalez family, the Oscar S. Gonzalez "Screaming Eagles" Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to a student from Edcouch-Elsa ISD or La Villa ISD who demonstrates academic achievement, community involvement, and a commitment to furthering their education.
